Hello everyone
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section but i need help. I just rebuilt my carburetor yesterday and slapped it back on my car and everything was great i also replaced my coil, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. My car came on stronger than ever before and it had the smoothest idle i have ever heard come from her since i got her........ But she shut off on me about 30 seconds in. I checked the engine bay and there was fuel everywhere. There is a leak at the fuel line right where it connects to the carb i don't know what the problem could be before i rebuilt the carb no fuel leak now fuel leak. What did i forget?

Haha sorry I'm an idiot it would help if I said what carb it was. Its a carter two barrel carb on a 318.

Still not enough info, and we can't see it from here.
With a fr4ank fuel leak, it can mean anything from a cracked fuel line, to a fuel line with an inside diameter too large for the nipple it's going no to (or not tightening the hose clamp enough), to a poorly sealed nipple to thread connection on the carb to a lot of other things.

A photo might help, but a lot of times you just have to look close and see where it's coming from.

Well I just put some Teflon tape between the lines and its not leaking anymore what I am afraid of now is too much pressure. Also its not starting now......... I'm just going to overhaul the whole thing

Sound to me all you need is a fuel hose.....

Why would you have too much fuel pressure????

 

I think pressure may be building up because I had that leak at the carb its a metal fuel line that screws into the carb I put Teflon on it and it stopped so if its not leaking anymore all that fuel is staying in there and not going anywhere. Maybe I'm just stupid in the subject but if the fuel is just building up in the carb its pressurizing in there right??? Basically I messed up somewhere along the line and I don't know where, the leak is at the base of the carb where the metal line screws into.

A "good" mechanical fuel pump will only put out 5 - 7 pounds of pressure. If that's too much for the downstream segment of your fuel line/carb, there's something else going on.

Poor thread fittings can easily do it and that's why there's teflon tape and sealants.

First thing, settle down, you just have to go over your work, take it back apart and look for the problem and fix it. As you say, it did not leak when you started working on it. It's not a big deal we have all been there.

If you use tape on fuel fitting's be carful, Teflon tape can cause problems in the carb.

Easy Flores....... Lets not get carried away with the Stupid word.

Check the Flare on the fitting next time it's apart... Sometime brass cracks or sometimes the steel cracks.... But it should seal with no problem...
But if a little teflon tape got it to seal... Just keep an eye on it....

The Pressure is on the back side of the needle and seat.... Not in the bowl, per say...

 

when you take the steel line off you DO use a pair of flair wrenchs, on the nut. dont you? if you dont you reap what you sow.
