Help with a 68 Charger
Quick Intro: I'm originally a mustang guy. Own 70 Mach 1 and 67 coupe. Fell in love the what dodge was doing with the hellcat, now own a 2018 destroyer Grey challenger hellcat. Now I'm wanting to dip my feet into old mopars and am hoping get some opinions on a particular car I'm looking at in a few days.
The car: NOT an R/t (an XS car?). Original 383 auto car. No fender tag or broadcast sheets. Currently has a 440 and a 727 torqueflite. Don't know what kind of rear end but has 4.10 gears. It's does NOT run currently but says it's not far. It does turn over.
Needs rear panel and valence, Dutchman panel, trunk floors, roof skin, a patch in driver floor pan, and some degree of quarter work on both sides. Rails and everything else structural is reportedly solid.
Has tons parts stripped from a full 68 and 69 parts cars (two full sets of doors, 3 sets of bumpers and grills, 2 dashes, etc..) . So should be enough to put one running charger together there.
Asking 12k obo. I think that's really steep. What should I be paying for it?

If the under carriage is as bad as the top and sides are it's junk... Just my 2 cents....
If the under carriage is in rebuildable shape... I myself would not offer a dime over 3,000.00
I look at it this way... Look at the car.... Imagen it with all the stuff you have to buy... That's what you have to start with.
I see a good part of 40,000 to make it a Clone Car.... You might be able to Rag it together for less. But that's just my spin on it.
Keep us posted.... Welcome to the site....

I don't know what the end goal is at this time but my plan was to get it all back to solid metal, spruce up the drivetrain and suspension underneath, put it back together with the parts available and drive it as is. I figured a floor 15k budget for that is in the realm of reality. It certainly is in the mustang world. Apart from metal and body I do my own work.

If your not a body guy with plenty of experience in structure repair keep looking! Theres a reason this car isn't getting repaired with all the parts that have been accumulated for it. Keep looking and find something decent you will be money ahead.

We've given this advise before to a guy looking at buying a Charger and he didn't listen, bought the car and ended up selling it and lost his a$$ on it.
