I have had problems with my ignition switch since day one. The cylinder will come out with the key in it and I have to mess around with it to get the turn signals/radio to work when its running. The turn signals work with the key off as well. Has anyone rewired one of these to a toggle switch. I have a wiring schematic, but I could use some advice.
I was thinking one on/off switch for the power and one toggle for the starter motor. Im not concerned with anyone stealing it. Or I could just give in and buy a new ignition. What do you thing?

You should be able to buy a new switch and cylinder lock at any "real" parts store. NAPA actually had one in stock for my 67 Dart

 

i have installed a push button switch in use with the ignition to start up the starter...
apparently my ignition box is out of adjustment where it attaches to the steering column. "i'm being lazy about it"...but i kind of like the push button that's why i'm dragging my heels on adjusting the ignition box...
i'm actually manufacturing a wood center console and i think i'm going to install the starter button in the console.

 

I too bought a keyed Ignition switch which is for the power and put a push button starter switch both are mounted on the dash panel. But my car when I bought it had no wiring at all so the whole harness was custom built by me so it was real easy to do...

 

Do yourself a favor and buy an ignition switch and a key with lock cylinder.

 

Buy the proper parts to fix the issue. NOBODY here will tell you how to hot wire a vehicle.

 

i think i will get one of those fancy push button switches like in a lexaz or a infint...
Have that luxury push start button "very cosmopolitan"
With lots of different color lights...
-Orange= "Ready"
-Red=starter button is "Depressed"
-Green="Engine running"
Cool eh?
But that's the way it is... some people like a total custom & unique ride.

 

Gorts 5th over the brake pedal under the dash you will see a small box with two small 11/32 head bolts. Loosen bolts going closer or farther back testing to see if the key switch engages the starter. It's tricky and has pretty much one spot only where it works.

Word of advise remove the ingnition key assembly from the car clean it throughly along with the place the switch goes in the steering column as there is a tiny switch in there. Reinstall. Brass from the keys tends to build up in there causing havok from time to time.

Similar on cars with ignition in the dash except there is no need to clean the dash itself.

Sure if you want to tell someone how to hot wire a car, who is Ghetto??? Maybe you want to be banned from the site??? When the moderator says( NOBODY here will tell you how to hot wire a car. ) You dont seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

 

It is not like I told him/her to take the hot ignition wire from under the column and....
