Ignition ping issues

Ignition ping issues
I'm having some ignition ping issues in my stock 340 and I'm thinking about going to a complete MSD ignition. Is it better then Mopar? Or can I run the MSD distributor with the Mopar box so I can adjust my timing curve better?

Without knowing what the curve is in there now, and what it is doing for advance, or even if it's working right (stuck?) You are shooting in the dark.
Other things can cause knock besides advance curve, not the least of which is a cooling problem, too high compression for the fuel, poor combination of head design, and a few other things, not to mention oil consumption......such as through the valve guides

Ya really didn't give a lot of info. (Year of the engine would help.)
Quickest test is to run a tank full of premium fuel.
If that solves the problem, you'll need to retard the timing or stick with the higher octane fuel.
If the motor was never rebuilt, there might be carbon buildup on the valves, etc. "Sometimes" fuel additives may help, but may require multiple uses and may or may not do anything.
If you've been looking at some of the other threads, make sure it's really "pinging" and not something else.
A lot of thoughts on the MSD rigs. Mostly opinion, on a street car I think they do more for the looks of the engine bay than the performance. Seriously doubt they will help your problem, which is too much cylinder pressure vs octane levels.

Don't count out the MSD. It is adjustable You can limit the total advance maybe 10 deg in the dist (20 total) and 12 initial for a total of 32 deg. May eliminate pinging. It can be done with the stock type dist It requires modifications and a lot of trial and error..

Sound more like you have a Tune-Up problem....
Re-check your tune-up
As already stated... Run a tank of 97 Octane and a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment and see if that works it all out.....
