odd behavior from 440 engine

So I'm posting here as I am not quite sure where to go next without spending a lot of money I don't have for this hobby. Essentially when the car is cold it will always stall out if slight pressure is applied to the throttle as it bogs (its a torqueFlite), this will often happen when it is up to temp as well. Even at temperature and moving in higher gears a light throttle results in a shutoff. It was generally a minor inconvenience as adjusting the screws on the carb to advance or retard would make performance objectively worse and a heavier foot on the pedal was all that was needed for a good running engine. However recently a new problem arrived as it will rhythmically bog every 4 or so seconds when idling at a stoplight to the point that it almost shuts off. It also now has a fun habit of "dieseling" after shutoff when run for a long period of time to add to my confusion. The carb is in good condition and doesn't have a lot of miles on it and the timing settings have been set by someone more mechanically inclined than I and have not been touched before these new problems occurred. Floats are in good shape and there is no excess carbon buildup on the jets as I do run it a hair rich. Fuel filter doesn't make sense as well as fuel pump since the symptoms don't align. My coolant system was redone years ago to avoid overheating as big blocks tend to get hot but temp has never been at a dangerous number since I replaced every component with beefier parts. Would it be symptoms of the previous overheating? The engine was rebuilt a very long time ago (bored, stroked, and different cam) so maybe the math was wrong and the cam timing is a touch off? The trans was rebuilt the same time as the engine and perhaps the gearing is off or the converter isn't functioning properly? Is it a possible solenoid issue or am I looking at having to take this in and have some expensive detective work done on it? My expertise on these engines are not from my age and experience but rather youtube videos on how these things run so I could be wasting everyones' time and clogging up the forum.

If I need to add more detail then let me know

Welcome.

With the air cleaner off, choke open and not running, can you see gas squirt when you push on the throttle with your hand?

Does the distributor have a vacuum advance canister?

Do you know the actual initial and full advance timing?

Do you know the camshaft lift and duration?

The issue seems to be fixed, set screws back to where they were, cleaned up the carb just to see and re-fitted/sealed all the vacuum lines I could find while looking for cracks/leaks. If the issue comes back again I'm sure I’ll be back posting. Thanks

I had a similar problem a few years back. After checking or changing almost everything from the tank to the carb, the one thing that was so obvious, we missed. The fuel filter was adjusted incorrectly and on demand starving the motor. Letting it sit for a few minutes, allowed enough fuel to trickle in. So after a week's work and a couple of hundred bucks for new parts, it was basically turning a screw. Just sayin'

and that filter is now history.
