Question about 8-3/4 Rear

I am scoping out a 4.56 geared 8-3/4 rear for a 67 belvedere with a 440 that I intend to race some. The guy claims it has a Detroit Locker...Would this be suitable for Street/Strip use? or Is this more of a Strip only sort of thing? I dont mind the gearing... dont plan on driving it 500 miles but do intend to putt around locally. Any suggestions/comments?
Thanks,
David Everhart

That is a really great setup for racing. Driving it around town will cause the tires to chirp around the corners and cause your rear tires to wear a little faster than normal. I'd do it though.

If your tires are smaller than 30 inches tall (measure them) your top speed will be about 50 mph, and you wouldn't want to do that very long.
