Smile Steering Column Rebuild

I am trying to rebuild a steering column from a 1968 B body with a floor shifter. I took the column apart sometime ago and did not document anything at that time (lesson learned). I am attempting to put it back together and am not sure of the location of a sprial spring that is about 3.5 inches long and 1.25 inches in diameter. Obviously it goes either at the top of the shaft beneath top housing or at the bottom just above the bottom bearning. I do have the mopar technical manual but it does not make any reference to this particular part. The manual does a good job of referencing the column shift however. I have searched all over the Internet for a schematic and have not found anything. Any assistance as to where this part actually goes would be much appreciated.
