Wander in my steering

Hey everyone. Just picked up my ride a few weeks ago and I just had a chance to take it out and stretch her legs today. The previous owner mentioned he had the front end rebuilt and alignment done but steering was very loose. In my travels today I see what he means. I’m used to a little play in the steering wheel but the car once it starts to wander to the left or right a little to far will actually pull. I had to fight it all the way. I’m about to order the only things he hadn’t replaced which was the upper ball joints. Also I’m not sure how the stance on these were originally but the top front wheels sit just inside the fender so there is no wheel gap. Advice is welcome.

Welcome to the site... Sounds like its due for a trip to a good frontend repair shop with a old guy that knows these cars for a good look over and a road test.
My guess from the description is looking like a possible steering gear box replacement or an adjustment...

indeed that’s what he was saying is he thought the gear box was the problem. I can pick up a rebuild kit for pretty cheap. Well a lot cheaper then the gear box itself. Still needs shocks front and back but the gear box is probably the culprit.

Have someone check it... It could just need an adjustment from wear.... That would be the cheapest.. If its a over sensitive at high speed in the steering, tat can be fixed also with a pressure relief valve in the P/S pump. Just food for thought
