Windage Tray

I have a question about something else I didn't see when I took the engine apart and that's a windage tray, is this important, should I get one? I know what it does and that supposed to prevent the oil from frothing. Also how do you put gaskets on with this, do you use 2 cork oil pan gaskets, and wouldn't this affect the dipstick reading?

For those of you wondering the first thing I couldn't find was the oil slinger, which I bought and plan on installing.

the trays promary job is to kep the oil from splashing up onto the crank to slow it down beleive it or not it does. you use any pan gasket yu wan t1 on each side of the tray. then bolt it down. no It doesnt interferit will get an accurate reading

Oh ok, I didn't know that, I always thought it had to do with the consistency of the oil and all.

ya
all it does is stop oil from splashing onto the crank to slow it down
i have it on my 440, and its stock
your supposed to use two oil pan gaskets, one on each side of the tray, and bolt, then torque the pan together.
i did this over the summer during my rebuild

My friend has them in stock, hes got a couple thousand fel pros in stock.

I know I asked about the windage tray, but what prevents the oil slinger from moving around and scraping the timing cover?

the oil slinger sits loose there, it isnt tight
but, it is bent in a way so it doesnt touch the timing cover
are you gonna put a double roller timing chain on your 440?

Yes, the one I got from edelbrock is. The diagram I saw shows the "point" of the cone shape towards the engine is that correct?

do you mean the "cone" on the oil slinger?
mine was basically flat, except bent out away from the timing chain, but it fits into the timing cover, so it wont hit it

That's what I meant, it looked like it might move around a bit though.

the oil slinger is supposed to have freeplay
all it is, is a baffle to stop oil from leaking out, and it helps protect the seal.
