I just read in MCG about new small block heads from Starfighter motorsports , they use all stock rockers & covers but are extremely high flowing heads , you can contact them at 909-657-8382

I've heard that the Magnum heads are a better performing/better flowing head than the LA heads. NOt saying a set of LA heads can't be built to match or do better than a set of MAgnum heads but you may be into less (money wise) especially if you do not know how to do the work yourself.

I think some of the members on here have done this swap or were looking into it.

Those are impressive gains BTW!

Thumbs up

the heads on my 318 came off a 76 360 2bbl the van was set up with a factory towing package.
my first swap was replacing the lean burn heads on my 77 diplomat
at the time i was running a old tranchula style 2 bbl i got from a challenger in a junk yard 25 yrs ago.
my brother ported/polished a old carter 2bbl and we did some jet rod adjustments too it on these lean burn heads/w headers/duals the performance was impressive when i swapped the heads wow
then i did a engine bay rebuild
new comp cams intake bearings oil pump seals heads awesome
then pulled the heads and ported them took my time/weekend used the vermont american 3 pc. stone set from the local box store and with some inside gauges and a micrometer
it was relatively easy the material is very machinable its that extra nickle...
when we did this last rebuild i was tempted to put larger vales in it but was concerned about vacuum and low rpm issues associated with large flowing heads
after talking with an old timer at the jeggs phone center decided to stay with the original size valves just under cut stems
im glad i did with the cam setup it is very torky stabbing the throttle at 2200 the car just raises up once im finished with the 518/390 swap its really going to come together
back in my high school days throwing a set of 360 heads on any 318 was a wake up call

Thanks , the 308 casting is very similar to the Magnum as far as the ports but retains the shaft rocker which I prefer over the chev / ball stud style

Don't use a hi Vol oil pump unless you have a 7-8 qt oil pan... KB pistons would be fine for a 3-400 HP street motor. Those MP cams have been around for years.. There may be better choices. PROPER CAM BREAKIN IN MANDATORY The 268/272 would probably work with your stock trans converter. 280 starts to get to where you need a Higher stall and gears
