Question 1966 Valaint with A-727-RG automatic transmisson what engines bolt up?

I have a 1966 Plymouth Valiant 200 with some research I found out that it might be a A-727-RG 3 speed torque flight automatic transmission.
I currently have a 255 slant six bolted to it, However It might unfortunately be junk(Not sure still trying to get it going properly) If it does end up being junk I would rather just drop another engine in i think it would be the cheapest and quickest way to go.

I can locate 318s almost everywhere would one bolt up to the transmission I have I am sure i would need the bell housing. with my truck I am able to run any engine made those years with the same transmission I'm curios to see if that is the same for this transmission.
any other engines you know would bolt up please let me know thank you very much! it is tough to find any information on something this old for some reason.

NO the 6cyl trans is specific to the 6 Cyl engine. Most likely you have a 904 trans, not a 727. IF you do have a 727 it is a very rare to find in a car mostly used in trucks

thank you for the information Its much appreciated.

So if i do end up going that route I would need a transmission as well as an engine.

A lot of people do it.. It takes some work Quick list you need motor and trans of course. also motor mounts, radiator, exhaust, drive shaft, rear end, upgrade to disk brakes .... ? depending on what is in the car now

Is it a 3 speed auto 727 is an auto or
3 speed standard ????

yep I thought as much for the parts list, the front end just has the oem breaks, I plan on upgrading the breaks to disk up front and for sure ditch the suicide master cylinder. if i do go the engine swap route I really hope to find a 440 or a 426 hemi just because a hot rod wagon would be very epic. I would settle for a built 318 as well.

the transmisson is a 3 speed automatic transmission.

The 66 A body has a smaller engine bay than the 67 up 440 or Hemi requires major surgery. A good 400" small block stroker would be more than up to the job

that is good to know, still would be a very intresting wagon with a 440 in it haha

Im sure this is blasphemy but I do have a built 350 and transmission I could put in, but lucky for me it seems that its just a timing issue with the 225 slant six. never know down the road I might want to put in a higher hp engine. for now the 225 should to the trick just moving it around the yard
