1985 Dodge d350

I picked up a 1985 Dodge D3 50 5.9 l gasoline engine truck. Put in a Edelbrock 1906 carburetor however, California DMV stated that they will not smog it because this is a pre-pollution controlled vehicle. Carburetor

Wanted to know if anyone can help me as to which carburetor may be legal or California DMV emission purposes?

I was looking at the Edelbrock 1400 600 CFM which has a California air resource board executive order. However, the order mentions got it applies to vehicles, 1980 or older , since the truck is 1985, I don't want to get turned away again

Any help is appreciated

Here is what I have found, Just a search. >>>>> https://www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/f...d?q=carburetor

Also, Check with a local carb rebuilder to see if they may have something or know where to get / source a replacement.
The only other one that mite be CARB Certified is a Rochester as a replacement.

Good Luck..... California Sucks when it come to our cool older truck being on the road.. Going to have to park my old Dodge due to Emission issues unresolvable...

Cheers

Bob does California let you run one of the new fuel injection systems instead of oem carbs?

It looks like the only mainstream aftermarket efi system that's legal in California is MSD's Atomic...but only if installed on a 1987 or older GM car or truck originally equipped with a carbureted V8 engine.

The only other kit I could find is by Howell which offers a GM TBI retrofit for 1972-91 AMC/Chrysler Jeep vehicles with the 4.2L engine.

It sucks that the rules aren't more relaxed for early emission controlled vehicles...
Being from Kansas I've never had to worry about this.. they don't check anything... they let people drive junk (which that part is bad, I know).

Iowan / M880, Yes you can do the one of the EFI kits that may be CARB Certified. But the California rules can change on you in a moments notice.
There are 2 ways to get your older ride so you can get your License plate sticker and you don't have to fight to get Insurance.

1. Find someone to bootleg your smog.
2. Find a donor vehicle to upgrade you vehicle and have the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) Sign off on it and give you a Sticker for under your hood. May also need a new VIN number depending how you go about the swap.
3. I think is the easiest way.. Pick up a create assembly from Cleveland Power and Performance and hang that complete system in and then have BAR sign off on it.

California Emission rules are constantly changing... They don't like our older cars.. Currently you have to Have your car Emission tested every other year.. So for this year (2023) the gas cars needing smog check are 2016-1977. And they use the last number of your VIN. So this year would be the Odd number cars.. New car purchases are exempt for 6 years. On the 7th year they need smogging.
I won't go into detail on all the ins and outs.

AS in the case of my old daily driver.... It has to come out of service this July because of lack of parts.... So I ether park it of upgrade swap it or junk it or sale it out of State.

But in the case of this gentlemans truck, he can get an aftermarket replacement carb, that is available.
