383 big block ideas?

So this is just something ive been thinking about lately after totaling my Dakota in the rain and rolling into a ditch (RIP)

I REALLY want too buy another Dakota because I loved my 99 single cab but instead of building a 408 stroker turbo like in that one I was wondering about a 383 big block? hell even maybe a stroked and turbo 383? I have been curious what it would take too do it? I know a 383 will fit ideally if I do this I was looking at taking a 383 big block stroke it too say 496? then run something like a twin turbo setup with some small quick too spin turbos push maybe a modest 5 or 8 pounds of boost? would I need too sleeve the block for this also I would convert the 383 too electronic fuel injection... If anyone else has any ideas feel free too comment them and just have fun with this nothing is set in stone just throwing around some ideas

well sadly it got sold with the truck I couldn't afford too buy my truck back from the towing company at the time I had the 408 for maybe 3 weeks? I installed it my self had everything balanced and the night I wrecked it I had bought a 1991 nissian 240sx for sale for 1300 so I was pretty much out of and im a fulltime college kid so money is hard too come by and I had been saving for my Dakota build and I was gonna use my 240sx as a daily driver :/ its was almost a 300 tow bill plus storage not mention medical bills from being in the ER I just couldn't afford too keep it

i think a twin turbo setup on a 496 stroker will be a bit much. gas mileage on a 496 is gonna be good enough, i can only imagine what it would be like with a twin turbo setup. i would prefer natural aspiration, instead of doing turbo setup. its gonna be an expensive build. have you thought about using a 400?

413 can make crazy power, but their more expensive to build then a 383 or 400. Its true that small blocks can scream higher but a 383 can to. Do you have any engine blocks to use, or are you looking for one?

What is the purpose of the truck going to be? Daily drive it and take it to the strip on the weekends? Main Race with weekend driving? Full blown drag race?

What would you do for a tranny and rear axle?

The 383 is a great base for building a strong motor (really all the Mopar motors are great bases). I would think stroking it to 496 is a bit much for just street driving and turbos on that is just asking from trouble unless you plan on just racing it. You can bore a 383 30 over and still get ~600HP out of it. Even with an auto behind it soaking up ~40-50 HP, you're still putting a good amount of power to the tires.

also for a rear axel I would run a dana 60 rear and probably a 727 torque flight for a tranny like I said im more then open for suggestions and input just want too get some good ideas I would like too get the truck into the 10's and keep it street able if its even possible but yet it doesn't have too be either

The 383 is a BB motor where as the 440 is a RB motor. You would run into the same issue with either. I've seen a fair share of RB motors in Dakotas though.

D60 is a great choice for a rear axle.

727 can be built to handle the power you are going to be after.

Since its going to be mostly strip, I'd start with a 440 block and go from there.

Only time I've seen a 440 in a Dakota is a first generation none have ever been in a 99 2nd generation Dakota that I've ever seen of I know a 383 has been in a 2nd generation that's why I asked but between a 383 and a 440 what are really the major differences? sorry if it seem dumb I really have only wrenched on small block magnums

Only difference that I am aware of is the raised deck for the longer stroke. I'm sure other's will chime in on what is different as well.

thanks I wasn't sure because I haven't seen anyone ever do it which I found kinda odd but if it will fit I will do a 440 6 pack with a supercharger keep it simple
