440 4 bbl

having been around the 440s when they were new, all the different vers. doing things like fixing off idle flat spot, trans plant a 440 into a 65 chrysller tuff swap, ect, i think the 440 ONLY had 4 bbl carbs, not any 2 bbl. is this true?

i have seen very few motor homes. but in the early 60 chrysler windser had a long stroke 383. with a 3.75 stroke crank, with the wide engine block, and a 2 bbl carb on a wide manifold. so it might be a way to use the old wide manifold to put a 2 bbl on a 440. but why would you want to if you can get an O.E.M. Carter AFB. all so when swapping manifolds a thing that i think can happen is a manifold that did NOT come from the factory with A/C may not be machined on front feet for an A/C. the reason i say this is one time i had real trouble putting an A/C bracket on a manifold. i only had this happen once. but watch out for this.

i had not thought of the 3 X 2 set up. no its not a trick question. i am not that smart. . i had about 20 Carter AFBs at one time till i got a divorce. the conventional idea was a big engine say 383 with a 2 bbl carb the bores had to be so big to get any power that the speed of the air was so slow the fuel had a hard time mixing with the air. but a 4 bbl would have smaller bore in the primarys giving a higher speed of air mixing fuel better for cursing.. then when you needed more power the secondary would add more total air. i saw a 383 MPG go up 3-4 MPG going from a 2 bbl to a 4bbl on the open road. ill bet thats why chrysler didnt put a 2 bbl on a 440.

I had some late 60's cars that had 383's w/2barr Carter's Or (Ball&Ball What ever you want to call them)....lol

Good Running Carb For the big blocks at the time. I dont remember them giving me too much trouble, and easy to work on......
