My 440 have a Holley Sniper EFI (master kit)

For run with E85 I up the fuel table to 30%, after 30 miles the sparks plugs look nice and the engine run really great, but I hear a lot of different things about the E85, so my question is simple : what do you thing about a 440 running E85 ? Good or bad ?

Nothing wrong with running "Corn Oil" (E85)... Keeps down detonation and runs a little cooler combustion.. You just have to adjust for the "What you called Fuel Table" to how E85 is blended in your area...

I've got a 12.5 440/500" that will be on the streets with e-85, race gas at $10 per gallon just isn't an option. I went with a Holley xp 950 carb that was perfect out of the box. Motor made 645 hp with iron 915 heads. This motor has always been thirsty and for breaking in the cam and four pulls it used 5 gallons of fuel. One thing I would recommend is if you park your car for more than a month run the e85 out of you tank and run strait gas through the fuel system. The alcohol is very corrosive to components in the fuel system.

The 440 in my avatar is a e85 motor....

I have a question for you, what compression ratio do you have?

Never take off the cylinder heads but I think pistons are stock too.

 

You wont find any extra Fuel Mileage with E85... But it will run cooler and will help with detonation. And yes, the fuel system has to be upgraded and Serviced / Cleaned if it's going to sit and not be used. Must Flush it clean and add a lubricant for storage..

 

So maybe 7.5.1 or 8.0.1 ..... My 2 cents

 

Is not for fuel mileage but for price, in France '95' octane gasoline price is 1€550, E85 0€60, a full tank cost my 90 euros with 95, or 37 euros with E85.

Yes low comp, I will change pistons (for KB237) and cylinder heads (for Edelbrock RPM), but I need to wait some years for have the money.

 

Just a question about compression, on the camshaft description, they writed : Needs 9.1 comp.

Did that mean : I need a 9.1 compression engine for use that cam ? Or did the cam give me a 9.1 compression ?

Maybe a stupid question but I speak french and dont really understand this 'needs'

 

E85 from the pump can support 13.5 to 1 cr, there is no benefit to using it in a low compression motor infact your motor would probably run better on pump gas.

there is a e85 fuel stabiliser available.

Yes, it means the cam will work best with a 9:1 compression ratio.
It will run with lower CRs, but no where near optimally.

Cams cannot change the CR of a motor, but can be configured to best utilize a given CR.
