440 RB engine casting #...
I'm trying to get a 440 big block from a guy that lives not too far from me for a sweet deal. He says it's a 1978 block from a motorhome with approximately 55k miles.
I asked him for the engine casting numbers (left side of block below head). He emailed me a couple pics and said, "Far as I can tell, it's S630-000-440-8". He said he couldn't be sure without pulling the exhaust manifold.
I'm assuming the number is more likely "5630000-440-8", but I can't find any reference to anything close to that casting number on any online list.
Anyone got any knowledge on this particular series? Or anyone know if/where I'm mistaken (if I am)?
Thanks.

According to what I found for a 78 440 block the cast number should be 4006630 they can be very hard to read at times if you can't get right to it. It could be the "6630" the 5 or S could be that other 6???
However I did find a 440 block made between 76-78 with cast number 3698830
Here's one of the sites I have..you probably looked there already but just in case..good luck

not trny'a be mean here. don't understand the big deal on casting no's. determine it's a 440 from dist pad stamping. determine bore condition with a mike, and by "no water in oil" etc etc or depending on build, magnaflux, etc etc, and use the thing.
in other words, if you want a 440, and it 's not a 26 or 13, bore is OK and block is sound, use it
heads are "junk" in any case for performance.
