440 swap...

Sup guys so i picked up my 1st classic about 2 years ago, 71 318 challenger... and this summer decided to drop a 440 in it...mind u i have no idea what im doing lol.

i bought a 440+ tranny out of a 71 imperial to drop in it ( i know the codes wouldn't match anyways)

anyways so finally dropped it in the other day and the headers are hitting the steering... do i need to get a set of headers for a challenger? or is it not set perfectly any advice/tips u guys have will be greatly appreciated thanks

Yeppers, and they even need to say "For power steering cars". There is a little difference in the tubes. Or... if it's not too much, you can just dimple the header until it clears.

www.440source.com
www.craigslist.org
www.summitracing.com
www.jegs.com

Your hanging with the big boys now...cheap isn't in MOPAR's vocabulary. The "best" your gonna do money wise for new parts is 440 source or used parts off craigslist. It will take longer to find things things yourself and sometimes they aren't cheaper, but if thats your main concern you gotta do what you gotta do. Obviously there are a ton more places to shop but these sites are a good starting point.

Think of it this way...you buy a part from "Joes home made fabricating shop" for 20-40% less than year one, mancini or indy. You get it all together, spend a few hours peelin out, then your discount part fails and blows 2-3 other systems out of order. Now you have to start over, you wasted time and money and worst of all, ya cant drive your beast around anymore...Get the picture? It just makes sense to spend a little extra for quality (insurance really). There are some things you can skimp on, but not much, maybe the interior since its really personal taste. The point is the parts are more for a reason. Now if your talking about getting name brand things like holley carbs at Year One, thats totally different, you just have to shop around for stuff like that. Im talking about things like Indy heads or 440 source stroker kits, in house produced parts.
