'73 318 vs '85 318 Heads?

I have a 1973 dodge dart with a spun bearing (318+904)

I have a rebuilt but unknown history 318 out from 1985 with fastburn heads.

I want to use the 85 318 block and fast burn heads in my 73 dart.

My current concerns are. are the Fast burn heads from 85 different exterior dimensions than old heads? I am looking to buy Headers and Intake manifold. Which leads me to think maybe I should use the old heads from original motor on the newer '85 short block. and buy Intake manifold and Headers for respective original heads ( i see this as an issue because the '85 motor was out of a dodge truck so headers for it would maybe not fit my 1973 dodge dart. Exhaust manifolds are different but ports are the same. Similar for the Intake. It looks like at least.

If anyone has any info, tips, or another direction to steer me too.. Thanks!!

-Corey

Also my first post, glad to be on the forums!

They are the same. I just put some swirl port heads on my 74 318 over the summer and intake and headers fit just fine

When you put the swirl port heads on did you have to change anything else? The push rods? Camshaft? lifters? Anything? I am thinking of doing the same thing on my 1970 318.

I have not run into this issue, but read on other forums. Some of these had "smog" heads had injector ports under? the exhaust ports. Evidently you must use small allen plugs, and watch for "protrusions" which interfere with the headers. I'm told a "little grinding" (and common sense) is all you need

No i didnt have to change anything at all. Headers will fit on fine, intake will fit on fine, I used the fast burn valvetrain, push rods are the same.

Check for the holes under the exhaust port like 440RR said unless they make headers now that cover the holes..Otherwise you will have exhaust leaks...74 you might of just lucked out, and yours were already plugged with set screws or carbon...I have yet to see headers that covers the holes...It take nothing to check better safe then sorry...And it easier to do it on the bench then in the car...Bill
