Exclamation Can anyone help? I want a new motor in my New Yorker :)

Hey I'm new here! I bought a $500 1979 new yorker last year for the Gambler 500 rally but I fell in love with the car and want to keep it. It's a 360 with a 727. I joined this forum seeking help for my engine since I wore a cam flat and I'm told I new a new engine. How hard is it to swap motors between years? I know they discontinued the 440 in 1978, but if I could find one, would it be relatively easy to bolt it into my engine bay? I was hoping I'd run into a mopar guy who knew their ****. Cuz I don't. haha

Otherwise, what's a good recommendation? I got a beautiful old mopar with a straight body, frame and tranny. I don't want to scrap it. Also, I am 19. So I'm not gonna buy a hellephant crate motor.

Thanks, looking forward to yall's advice!

My recommendation is to replace with a 360, do the usual hot rod stuff and get 400 hp. When your skill level becomes better then think about a different engine swap.

What rear axle ratio do you have?

Look up Richard Holender 360 Dodge. Dyno video.

got to agree. you can make that 360 a serious thumper with some pretty standard mods and it'll slip right into place.

Thanks for the info. I believe I have the 8 1/4. You think my motor is good for a rebuild?
