Chip for Dakota 8 cyl
I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota small 8 4whldrive that I want to change to a better performance chip. More of a slight increase in hp and big increase in mpg.
Any one out there have some suggestions? Looking for someone that is using a chip that they are happy with.

I can tell you to not go with Jet Performance. I had their Stage 1 chip in an 02 Dakota, V6, 5spd, reg cab, short bed and it gave me nothing but engine codes.
I've heard about people being able to re-flash the PCMs so that you can gain HP, TQ, and MPG. Its a software program that you have to buy the license for and you really have to know what you are doing with it. I know that its been out for some time for GM motors, not sure about Chrysler though.
Do you have any mods on the truck or is it all stock?

computer chip
No mods. Just stock and very underpowered. It seems to run very rich when first started. I had a Dakota 318 4sp prior. I remember reading that that motor was chipped to run rich from factory. Keeps the cat conv cool.
I know there are several chips on the market. Just looking for someone that is happy with a certain brand (comfiguration). One that is working for them.

I have used / currently use SCT and Diablo products.
Yes, the stock tune is VERY rich. You will make very nice gains with a re tune alone. All of the big three run FAT fuel trims. However, I strongly recommend an air / fuel gauge and opening up the exhaust some.
