Engine idea's for my 2010 Chrysler Sebring
Hello everyone!
This is my first post and I look forward to getting to meet you all!
I could use some input from some knowledgeable folk.
I am seeking an engine to replace my failing 3.5L. I am open to a moderate amount of work, but I am also open to the advice of others. Ideally I would like to find a diesel I could pair with my existing rebuilt 62TE like the 2.0 CRD, but I am having no luck in locating such engine in my area. The thought of running black diesel is what I am really seeking here.. Also to throw a little extra power in with the help of a turbo. (My 3.5L leaves very little room for a turbo, but where there's a will there is a way!!!) Ideally running with a timing chain as opposed to timing belt. Yea, I've got quite the Christmas list.... I have jokingly dreamt about slapping in a 4bt, but I'm not even going to touch that one..... If I'm unable to find something along those ideas, I'd like to start looking into a gas replacement with a bit more output. Would a 3.6L Pentastar be relatively easy to swap in? Are there other gas engines from other companies that relatively compatible? I know my biggest obstacle will probably be mounting and fabrication. Otherwise I was thinking another 3.5L rebuilt with port n polish Top n Bottom and all the bullet proofing I can do. Already straight piped. If I get stuck going this route, I will just find a way to slap a turbo or two under it. Can someone give me their two cents? I would love a diesel and I am willing to go through all the work, just really wanna know what might be most compatible/ideal for my setup/needs. Otherwise, I'll go gas but I'd be seeking higher numbers and reliability, as well as I'd still want it to have a TC rather than TB. Thoughts? Suggestions? And FYI, I just love this piece of crap. I know it's not worth all the work and effort but I don't care, it's MY piece of crap and it moves LOL. It also looks really nice, and being so light... It loves to dance on the highway haha.
Thank guys!

In doing late model engine swaps especially front wheel drive you must consider the transmission also. It’s possible that you will need to replace the engine and transmission as a unit. Me personally I’d stay away from the 3.6 pentastare v6 they have been nothing but problems for Chrysler since their debut in 2011 or 12. Your idea of rebuilding the original engine is probably the way to go but I don’t know much about them, my ex had a 3.7 in her Sebring convertible and it ran fine.
good luck with your project Chrysler has had many engines and problems over the years twenty years so doing an engine swap is like Russian roulette, you could be picking a worse engine for the swap.

Those cars are really a heavy car.. Also Unless you can do a hell of a lot of fabrication work? i think your going to have a car that Drives,Handles, and steers like a overloaded log truck ...
If you dont have room to do a turbo kit "I dont recall any of them having those" I would say your best bet it to go with a SRT Turboed 4 cylinder and a 5 speed like that was in the neons...
I sure there are still plenty of performance parts out there for them...
Most of this build would depend on your skill level and resources... Also not sure if you have to do yearly emissions testing of not in you area? But thats a huge factor now days...
Keep us posted o what you decide to do.... Cheers
