Alright so im getting a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner and I want to build the engine scratch. I dont want to get a crate engine because of one cost, two I want to do it and it might seem irrational to some but you have to start somewhere. Now heres the problem, I want to make a 440 6 pack for it but however have no clue as to what even makes the 440 6 pack different from the 440, little help? Not only that I have personally never just completely built an engine from scratch which is have the reason I want to
After reading a little here and there well I have to say it can easily get confusing, so anyone wanna explain or give some advice on building the 440 6 pack from scratch? Im not worried about making it completely legit or anything, dont need numbers to match or anything either. Just want to know things like what part works with what. I mean im going through it and I see how this bore size works with this or that, or just the block itself has different bore sizes, or clearances for the valves, or cam bearings, etc any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you!

Get some big block books at Amazon.com and read them a three times a piece.

LOL Brem, but 3 times wont be enough... I promise.... to the OP Welcome aboard and there is LOTS of help here for the asking... If I remember correctly Bremeric has the some of the needed six-pack pieces unless he has already sold them off... Sheeze Brem figured ya woulda been on the start of this build with the needed six pack pieces like the proverbial white on rice...

The six pack basically has 3 two barrel carbs where the reg 440 has a 4 barrel car, i think there are some more differences like the cam and push rods and other things but im not completely sure.
here is a link to some parts from eldelbrock, it sounds like you want to keep it stock so you probably dont want them, but its around $1200 for the kit.

Also i just rebuilt my first engine (1974 440RB) about 6 months ago and i didnt think it was that hard to figure out, google was my best friend, and i got a few books from the store. also the guy that machined my block gave me a lot of good tips to.

There should be others that will probably respond...
6 pack was same basic engine with several major differences. Heaver connecting rods. Externally balanced I think and different cam (3 bolt ), windage tray and of course the 6 pack intake.
Automatic version also had a high stall converter
