Which Flowmasters

I was just wondering which Flowmaster is better and why? I hear people using the 40s and the 44s what are the advantages and disadvantages...The mufflers I have on there now came with the header back system from Summit (Summit Turbo) and the one muffler has a pinging/echoing sound with the thump/loap of the cam...Bill

Bill, maybe this young gun can help ya. In my experoence, flow master claims the 44 to be louder than the 40. On two vehicles side by side, I don't notice much difference. Personally, I would go with thunder road exhaust mufflers (eBay). They look identical to the flowmasters and are sold as a pair for the price of one flowmaster. When I researched them, I turned up some interesting info. Apparently a few years back, flowmaster let their patents lapse. So their designs were free for the taking. Thunder road happened to get them and start making the 40 series without the flowmaster logo. Just my 2 cents though.

Unfortunate but that post was from January I put Flow-master 44 deltas on it and they are loud but only when I'm in the 3000 to 6000 rpm range...But thanks...Bill

basically, with any muffler, the longer it is, the deeper the growl. The shorter ones are louder and more brash. So, if you like a real deep, throaty sound, longer is likely your cup of tea, but if you wanna be heard three blocks away when you get on it, go for the shorties but be aware, the cops like those, too.

I go for long mufflers, mahself.
