head gasket question

I have an 86 318 that I am fixing to do the heads on. I know that the head gasket on that engine has a blocked water port on the passenger side to bring the heat up for all the smog crap - I have all of that stuff unhooked at this point - my question is - has anyone ever drilled the gasket to allow the water to flow thru like the older 318s ? - I can not see a problem with doing this but would welcome any input you may have. thank you - jack

thanks Bob - i got my answer on another forum - best to not open it up - it will change how the coolant flows thru the engine and may over heat a different area in the motor - so I will just leave it in place - but thank you anyway -- jaxx
