Heads for a 318 LA?

What performance Heads should I use for a street/strip 318? I heard that magnum heads would work for the 318, as well as 340 or 360 performance heads. Should I just buy some performance heads for those engines and put them on the 318?
What would needed to be done to put the heads on the 318?

A lot epends on what else you are going to throw into the motor. Some simple rework may be all you need. There are always a set of "X" and/or "J" heads (I think those are the right codes) that would flow pretty well.

how about the RHS pro action, LA-X head. I think that is what I would use. You could use the factory 360 heads BUT, it would be best to raise the compression if you go this route. Like try a set of K-B Hypereutectic pistons.

Magnum heads will not fit on a LA motor, without serious modifications. 340J /360 heads will work Along with a 4 bbl manifold. You can't go to big valve heads 2.02 with the 318 smaller bore or at least not recommended as the valve will be VERY close to the cylinder wall, would need clearances checked and bores notched possibly. What is your budget ?? What vehicle will it be in ? What is the end use ?

Very true. Most stories that I've heard, the bores had to be notched.

that is the beauty of the RHS-LA-X head. they have the magnum valve size and 62 cc chamber BUT the are made to fit on the "old" 318. they got rocker shafts and regular LA style intake bolt pattern and are not oiled through the pushrods/ You can get them bare for around $700 a pair and just transfer some magnum valves etc.
they are also known as RHS/Indy Pro-Action LA-X heads. they are cast iron.

RHS or EQs will pull good numbers. Both can be had with LA bolt patterns. Throw a 2.02 valve in either and you are over 250cfm. There are some machine shops that offer EQ with a 2.02 / 1.6 (11/32 valves with springs ) for 350 a head. Ive used them both. Like them both.
