I'm installing magnum heads on an LA block.

The LA block was a factory roller cam engine. I have all the original hardware from the block used with the roller lifter ie. The "spider" and the lifter "retainers" if thats what theyre called. Can I reuse that hardware and just throw a set of factory magnum roller lifters in? I dont want to use the retrofit lifters with tie bars if I dont have to.

 

I think the lifters will uncover the oil galley in the lifter bore.

Late to the party and maybe I am missing something here but . . . if it is an original roller cam block why would you not be able to use the stock type roller lifters ?? The lifters are the same part number for the 318 and the Magnum 360. Maybe if you were doing some type of huge camshaft but otherwise I dont see any reason why not.

 

LA Block / Magnum Roller lifters.... You better check it. I think it needs retro lifters or Lifter Bore Bushings.
Please correct me it i am wrong.

 

If his block was originally a roller block like he says in his original question then it will work fine.

 

I talked to Hughes. They told me its totally fine to use stock stock magnum lifters in a factory LA roller. Thanks guys.
