Got the carb back on,questionable rebuild but seems to have improved, sit rep, car will basically almost run as long as I'm holding the starter, let go of the starter, and you just hear the starter winding down, and hordes of smoke out the back......I rebuilt the carb back the way I disassembled it, wether it was rebuilt properly before hand, I could tell ya. Fuel pressure is a steady 6psi, can't check vacuum yet, guess Ill check each plug for spark, haven't done to tower yet, need a second set of hands.

Thanks for all the help and input so far guys. I got the thing to start, if you wanna call it that. It spits and sputters, backfires thru the carb shooting flames, I have to constantly pump the pedal about half way to keep it sputtering, then finally, a big backfire thru the carb kills it.......Round 2 begins.......

I would try moving distributor counter-clockwise slightly to advance timing and idle screw adjustment out 1 1/2 turn from seated. If you can get it to run then a timing light will be next.

That small plate inside the carb I'd guess would be for some other model for emissions or California or Canadian. That shiny spot inside is curious but from the pictures, your description and that bare copper wire from the mounting stud to top screws is WOW WEE, time for another carb.

My hat is off to you for your sticking to it, others would have given up. YOU GOT THAT ENGINE FIRED MAN!!!!
