Slant 6 Mods

So my 74 dart I'm working on has the original 225 single barrel slant six. I'm doing a fairly stock rebuild on the rest of the car, but I've been trying to figure out what to do under the hood. I considered an engine swap, but I don't want to go the "normal" route. I've come across a few, hard to find, articles on performance for the slant 6. I'm currently toying with the idea of a multi-port injection with a turbo.... Call me crazy, but I haven't seen one yet and I think it'd be unique. So the question is, has anybody here done this? I've read about using the GM straight six fuel injection for that part, any other ideas? I'm really wanting some feedback as to what else might need changed. Headers? upgraded trans? different rear-end? All feedback would be appreciated since I'm still in the basic planning stage.

The guys down under are really in to the slant 6's. There are a few websites you can look at. Google hemi 6 and it should bring it up. Turbo's, superchargers and stuff.

unless you want a race engine, a pre-smog 318 2bbl and pre-smog mild cam makes a very good daily driver. just grind off the raised pad for the 1 bbl. and make 1/4 inch plate for the 318 2bbl. and bolt it to the stock manifold with counter sunk screws. do NOT weld it. make the 2bbl throttle shaft run the same direction as the crank shaft. and be sure the throttle does NOT jam wide open.

Unless you are merely contemplating bolting some Boost(low), directly onto the existing S6 "as is"...and having some fun......then really, the biggest caution of going any further with it, as in "rebuilding it" for Higher Boosts and Output, are rife with the same EXPENSES as any other Engine ?
* Forged pistons, * prepped Rods with ARP Bolts, decent headwork, Header, Intake yada, yada, ...it all adds up very quickly !
and also very quickly...
does the rationale to then digress to a V8 initially with an Engine Swap more conducive to a better end result ?

Not saying you can't make the S6 go....you can...we played with them lots in the 70's with decent results(12's in the 1/4), although they still sound kinda "funny" spooling up ?
just saying,
Nowadays, the term "Labor of Love" comes to mind ? Why ?

It probably will turn into a labor of love, and lots of money (just don't tell my wife!) but I haven't ever driven a car with a six, and I just don't ever see any mopars around here, much less with a six. So it's more a personal thing, not really a financial/power/smart decision. Just a 19 year old hot-rodder with an imagination....

"Super Six"

Any one can chime in and correct me on this but... I believe Mopar Performance put out a "Super Six" 4 barrel aluminum intake for the slant six for a while.

thats great. if you will note the rear suspension system is perfectly set up. ie. the body goes up upon launch. if your mopar body goes down it is NOT set right. i would like to know what class he is in.

I met a fellow named Doug Dutra a few months ago and found that he is a Slant 6 guru!

I like the drag car, but mine will be less than that. I don't even want to try to afford his setup. I've heard of Doug Dutra, I'd love to meet him if he visited Arkansas. I like his builds. I'm thinking about building a custom set of headers for my six to breathe through.... Not sure yet though. My wife wants to drive the car some too, and isn't crazy about a turbo....
