Trouble starting when hot

After my car has been running for awhile like if I go to the auto parts store, when I get out it is never easy to start up again.

I do eventually get it fired up, but not for a few tries. Weather I give it gas or not it always has the same results.

What could be the issue?

thanks.

Could be bad coil, Could be a low voltage to the coil, could be fuel over flow, low compression ??????

Does hard to start mean, starter is turning slower and sounding laboured or same starter rpm and not firing up easily?

Give it a couple of pumps my car does it too only when hot I think carb vaporizes and needs a little extra shot of fuel. Try it or hold the throttle open some to see if the carb boiled over and it is flooded. I say this because you too are running an eddy carb and thats what Ive found with mine a couple of pumps and it fires right up...Bill

thanks for the responses.
cold it turns right over and starts.
hot it turns very, very slow but with just the right amount of gas it eventually starts, or floods.
It always does start.... eventually.

I'd be looking at battery, cable connections and possibly starter that tightens up when it gets hot. If you have headers a heat shield around the starter may help after checking all connections.

Could also be too much initial timing. It's worse when trying to start a hot motor.

A COIL ISNT GOING TO MAKE IT TURN OVER SLOW. As said before you have one of 2 things going on either the timing is advanced to much. What is the base timing set at ? Or the starter is what is called heat soaked. A new starter will correct that and I would get a starter for like a 93 Dakota 318 this way you will get a mini starter and they turn faster and are smaller. A must when running headers... It will look different but be assured it will fit and out perform the big old one and at the same time make for easy removal without removing the Header, Steering,Etc...Bill

Do you have a ground strap from the engine to the body/frame?
