A833 Overdrive on 493 stroker?
Hi guys,
what do you think about A833 overdrive trans with aluminium housing, bolted on 493 stroker (525HP/590ftlbs) in 1973 Charger?
This will be weekend/holiday car, no drag races off course
Will it hold this power or not?

Is it a stock trans. or is it a Passon prepped unit? I run a 499 stroker and an 18 spline A-833 "Hemi" gear box, and I've blown the transmission up twice. While it does depend on your driving habits, you've got to keep in mind what the O.D. trans was intended for, and what a stroked big block is intended for. Unless Jamie has had his hands on it, it is not going to last long.

Looks like a new subject for Mythbusters as I know for fact a baasically stock 70 440 will explode the aluminum case
Why have a 493 (there's some reason for a big inch motor)& put a weak link between it & the rearend which I bet was built or installed to hold the 493
Jamie could hold prayer over the 833 OD & an exorcism too but that won't make a trans designed for a /6 or smog 318 The almighty trans

It would take a new main case as the aluminum is weak Jamie has been working on his new trans more than the 833 OD from what I've been reading
He & I are members of the same forum he posts on a lot
