NP 203

I took my tranny out of my 76 W100 to be rebuilt and while I have my transfer case out is there something I should do to it? How do I check chain stretch? Any thing else while its out?

Your best bet is to buy a dodge service manual though as that will give you all the info that you need. I've heard that Hayes and Mitchell (sp?) are pretty good as well.

I know that most if not all NP203 t-cases are full time 4wd. There are part time kits out there that give you more options as far as 2wd and 4wd goes and can help a little with better mileage. I did this with a full time t-case in my j10 and it was something I should have done right from them beginning.

that full time 4x4 to 4x2 par time was a great kit according to my father who i assisted on a install on his gmc p.u. it was a "warn" brand kit.
that case has a few parts in it just, the tear down and measuring of all the parts will take hours of fun and enjoyment...

With the t-case being full time 4wd, there is a differential in it. If you do go into it, I strongly suggest installing wither Warn's or Mile Marker's part time conversion kit. Or you could swap it out for a NP205 which is all gear driven but the low range is only 2:1.

Of course....... since you already have the NP203, you could make a doubler with it and a NP205. You'll need to have your driveshafts modified, and have another set of sticks in the cab...... but...... come on..... its a doubler!

The NP205’s gear ratio is 1.96:1--the 203 is 2:1, a better off-road ratio, but not by much.

The 2wd kit by mile marker is a great modification, though don’t be too disappointed when you only see about one more mpg.

The 203 is heavy but it’s about as beefy as it gets. The most common cause of failure is INCORRECT LUBRICATION. The 203 doesn’t use ATF or gear oil. Here is an article I wrote about this awesome case:
