Questions about Gear Vendors Overdrive

Hi everyone!

In forum post some people recommend me to swap my 727 Torqueflite tranny for a Torqueflite A 518 with lockup converter due to I'm restoring my Plymouth Fury 1974 and I want to have good MPG numbers. But Their too recomend me like a most economical solution to install the Gears Vendors Overdrive than swap the tranny to the A518.

Right now the A518 tranny has a price of 1960 US Dollars plus the torque converter but the Gears Vendors Overdrive has a price of 2400 US Dollars

So what I'm missing? I think something is grong because in the past numbers the most economical solution is to swap the tranny not install the Gears Vendors Overdrive

What? 6 speed?

How this stuff works? The driver must turn the overdrive unit on and off in each gear or how?

Is true that I will able to get between 25% - 30% best MPG numbers with this?

Can this make a kind of damage on the engine or transmission?

Gear venders is a waste of money. Look for a used A500 or A518 and I can give you a link to someone that makes a vacuum control unit to use instead of a computer. I helped a buddy beat the hell out of his tranny tunnel to make a gear venders to work.

Pretty much yes. You can turn the OD on and off in every gear if you want or just after 3rd.

I'd look into installing either an A518 or A618 instead though.

I was under the impression that a 518 would require tunnel mods. I know you have to cut up the tunnel and modify the crossmember on an A body.

So Can I buy an A518 46RE and convert it to a 46RH? This guy makes vacuum control unit for more transmissions ? please give me the link

Would be amazing to have a five speed transmission in the car but I don't know what car mounted it so I think I must conform with the A518

I had understood that the A618 transmission was used in diesel trucks

I don't know why but I have a feeling that gears vendors OD may damage the transmission if I activate it in 3rd gear and the kickdown shifts down. I think this will produce a greater stress on the transmission parts

What year of Dakota or Ram has a 5 speed automatic transmission?

What kind of modifications should I do to the supports?

Edit: Well... A guy is selling to me a 545RFE from a Jeep Liberty 2002. he crashed the car when it had 32000 Miles, he's asking to me 800 USD and the transmission is working well but the Jeep Liberty is 4x4. How Can I convert it to a 4x2?

Here's a pic:

Thank you!!

This guy makes vacuum control unit for each reference of mopar automatic transmission or only some references?

I think the 545RFE is a better candidate for the transmission swap but I'm a bit worried due to the supports modification and the vacuum control unit for it
