TF500 on BB

Hello,

I have kind of an odd question.
I wanted to rebuild my 727 and had a plan to buy a gear vendor overdrive.
But I would still have to swap the gears in the rear end. Mine has a ratio of 2.76:1.

But with a A500 I would have it all in one package.
I know the A518 has an OD and would fit, but the A500 has better ratios in the first two gears.

And since I live in the EU it is far cheaper and easier to get an automatic trans from here, than an OD and gears from the US or Canada.

Is there a good way to make this happen? Maybe an adapter or swapping internals or something else?
Do you have any other tips?

Sorry in advance for typos or misunderstanding. English is not my native language.

I looked into it once and it can be done but I didn't save all the information. But with 2.76 gears you don't need an overdrive.

Ok. I get what you are saying. I looked at rockauto and the got a ring and pinion set with 3.55:1 ratio for 134€.
Should I use that and an A518.
Does the A518 bolt direktly to my 400cui without adapter?
Is the tunnel the same size on all cars or is it possible, that I won't have to cut much out of my 74 newport.

Btw. Thank you for your reply.

AS long as the trans is for a big block, it should fit your 400.... Yes it will fit in the car.. You may have to hammer the floor just a little bit...
Keep us posted...

I assume, that my driveshaft has to be shortened.
I don't know much about the '90s cars.
Is there a car withe the 518 and a driveshaft, that would directly fit in my newport.
Do I have to use another bushing for the 518?

I am really thankful for your help.

Adapter and custom drive shaft or shortened shaft and like Bod said you will have to make room for it.

I can't see it being worth the effort and cost, but that's me.

Yeah. I just saw, that there was no big block engine with either of the 4-speeds. Too bad.
For some reason there is also just a 3.55:1 ratio gear set for my rear end. Seems they changed something on the 8.25 in the 70s.
a 3.11:1 or something would have been a better compromise for me.
