Internal regulator alternator conversion

I've been having over charging problems with my 74 fury stock alternator, I replaced voltage regulator two times but not success. Today while checking the Field terminals I heard a "click" noise from the alternator and it stopped charging.

I'm not sure if I want to rebuilt it (If I do, will be the second time) so I was considering to upgrade for a 80 amp or 100 amp unit with an internal regulator. I've been looking for guides about doing this conversion but I've a couple doubts:

-Should I buy an 1 wire or 3 wire alternator?
-A GM case style alternator will fit on the mopar brakets?

I installed a Denso on my 383 block. 95 amp, 3 wire although you don't have to use the charge light wire. Fit perfectly and very compact. Had no problems in the last 3 years. Make sure what ever you buy to keep the pulley in mind - I ordered mine with a v-groove but you can get serpentine as well.

Looks great, my unique concern is that if a GM case style alternator will fit on a stock mopar alternator bracket, does it fit?

No, not without mods. It's because of the mounting tabs which have to be a certain orientation for direct mounting ie: 180, 120 etc degrees apart. Also the depth of the unit may be an issue for fit and aligning the pulleys.

mmm so I think the better option is to use a mopar alternator, or, is there aftermarket brakets for install the GM alternator on my fury?

I don't keep up on all the aftermarket stuff. If you can figure a way to mount it, you can make it work.

But.........does the 74 have a "full current" ammeter, or external shunt? This is an issue when wanting to add great big alternators

Well my 74 have an ammeter but is broken so I installed an additional sunpro ammeter. I think I'm going to buy a Tuff Stuff 80 Amp alternator and two extra universal brackets to see which one fits
