74 plymouth duster front end issues

74 plymouth duster front end issues

hi everyone i am new to this . i have a 74 duster almost redone but drove it around my driveway and front end dropped and headers hit the ground. i put it on my lift and got new tortion bars backed it out started driving and it dropped again and that is with the tensioning bolts all the way in. can anyone help me thank you

I would suspect you do not have the control arms fully extended with the weight off when you are installing the torsion bars. Shocks disconnected too!!!

The weight was off but no I did not disconnect the shocks

did you have the front end disassembled ? so unless you put it together wrong ???

No I did not have it apart it was fine than one day it dropped and I put tortion bars on it and it raised me a little but not enough

Left & right torsion bars are clocked differently as well make sure the even # bar is on the right / passenger side , left drivers .
I agree the arms have to be lowered all the way down before the bars are slid into place as well . Either could be the problem

How do I know if its the even # bar is it stamped somewhere

on the end of the bar it should have a 3 digit part # it is 7 digits but only has the last 3 on the bar & may have L or R in the end also

Could your tension bolts be stripped? You could be tightening them down, and then when you drive, they loosen off, allowing the car to drop.

No the bolts are still tight with plenty of tention on them. It's all of a sudden it's not a gradual drop and my car is still on the lift but in down position and 220 to the motor quit so have not been able to look hoping to fix it this weekend thanks everyone

fixed it

You were right I had a torsion bars switched right was on the left and the left was on the right I switched them and they work great thank you
