ok guys i found a 1971 plymouth duster today no engine or trans no rea end and no seats it is a manual trans car the guy picked it up and pulled the engine and trans it had a 340 and 4 speed in it didnt know if it was original or not and i didnt get the vin to decode but will. it has little to no rust qaurters are solid and everything i could access panel wise was solid. the questions i have are the guywants 600 for it is it worth the money also it is missing tail lights grille and hood how hard are these parts going to be to find how hard are 71 duster parts to find in genral.

I don't mean this as a slight on you---but if this car is so straight and rust free, why is he junking it out?

Pictures would help, but sounds like it's worth it. It have a CLEAR TITLE? All the glass? I'd be for getting the VIN and see if it has a fender tag and decode the thing.

Clear title will be the key here, I have a factory pin hood that needs a little work, but not too bad. Where are you located?

for the most part, 70/71 parts are very interchangeable, and 72 for a lot of parts. Notable differences are the tail lights, and side marker lights. Mechanical parts, motor/trans suspension and the like all interchange. If you are picking up basically a shell, then you can start by putting the spool mount V-8 K frame, 73 - 76 A-Body disc brakes, find a good 8.75 rear end, and drop any motor/trans combo you want in. If the car had a manual in it, does it still have the clutch pedal assy.? Go with a B engine, and a Hemi 4 Spd with a well built 8.75.

Good luck with the build...

Exclamation Beware.... Just a heads up.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE FLOORS AND UNDER THE SEATS!!!!! I have gotten burned after looking at all the obvious stuff, and been told no rust..... the ya pull up the carpet and its flintstone mobile...... I play with alot of dusters, and im telling you without much doubt ..... there is rust..... just a matter of where.... look carefully, check trunk , and trunk extensions as well..

Out of 5 dusters and dart sports i have owned now, only one was "rust free"... and unfortunately it was rolled, but it was also an arizona car. If it has a vinyl top, (doubt it) but if it does check the pillars down the sides opf the windshield. I dont think any had vinyl tops that early on stock, but ya never know what someone might do to one LOL.

Not necessarily;y true... I live in Seattle, my car was a washington car its entire life, and doesn't have an ounce of rust on it.

And i've bought quite a few a-bodies that were washington cars with no rust..

Thumbs up I would buy it but

Its all about you , do you have money for a restoration, do you only want a v8 or would a six banger make you happy, can you do metal work? all this only you can answer? again pictures tell the story here. How much stuff do you need to buy and it it expensive stuff or cheap stuff. Do you have tools and a garage and time to work on a project. Projects take years if you are low on time, money parts and ambition. I would love to see the car ) best wishes CD

Sounds like a marginal deal at best, But then in So. Ca. where I'm at we have lots of nice stuff. I would pay a bit more and find something more complete if it was me.
