I need some advice for exhaust options for my 66 satellite. To give a little background I'm 22 and this is my first project car, it's almost finished now. It is the 318 engine model and instead of beefing it up and engine swapping it I just restored it since the engine matched the vin. I've kept the car as orginal as possible. But with that said I can't help but wanting a little more rumble from the exhaust(i know it's only a 318) what would be my best option to do so? Would an after market exhaust hurt any resale value? Would it be better to just straight pipe it? Or just deal with it and get the original exhaust? Thanks for any advice.

 

the choice is your's, but if you went with a Magnaflow setup you should get some rumble... and all of us Mopar guys have our different preferences when it comes to exhaust

I would go to a custom shop and have a 2" system, with H or X pipe made to resemble the factory dual HP exhaust and aftermarket mufflers like MF. Yes, you will be taking a few liberties for a period correct resto.

As far as performance, since the 318 is basically stock, the biggest mistake you can make is going too big, since you need some back pressure. That's why I said a 2" system and any after market mufflers.

That should even work if you decide to add a little more oomph to the motor later on - and you probably will.

Congratulations on getting down to the details on your project, how your car sounds can make or break your satisfaction leavel. It changes the feal of the car as you drive it. You need to decide if you want your car to sound like a hot rod from the 50s with glass packs or a muscle cars from the 60s with Hemi mufflers or a moore mellowed tone but definitely audible. The last one is the easiest to live with and generally cool ��, first off you can't tell if its a 440 or a 318!

One thing I have always thought of strait pipes or glass packs with tailpipes as farmboy going to town, I live in Iowa, so I favor The mellowed sound , it's so COOOOOOLLLLLLL.

One more thing, I agree with archer to a point, 2" to the muffler and 2 1/4 tail pipes.2 1/4 just look better.

 

I say, as a young lad... 2-1/2".... FlowMaster 44's or 40"s and or SpinTech. And let it rip till you get tired of it, and then tame the mufflers down at a later time when you get tired of it.
