83 Dodge D150
Hi all, im thinking about buying a 83 D150 with a 318, (this will be my first car) and this may be a dumb question but i need to ask, first off will this truck be fuel injected (i dont believe so because i think fuel injection was introduced in 87 in the D series) Also will this 318 be fitted to take the same parts as a 70's 318, for example same intake manifolds, carbs , cams, heads, and headers. or is the top end totally different. thanks in advance, again i know this may be common seance to some but idk.
i had a 1982 3/4 ton truck. 318. i think yours might have the electronic ignition. if it does it will have a ballast resistor white in color. with 4 wires or 2 wires. get two new ballast resistors. put them in the glove box. the first time it does not start just swap out the resistor with a new one. i think yours will have a carb. mine had a 2 bbl holley. not a bad carb but not a great carb ether.
First off welcome, In 1983 it will not be EFI it will either have a Carter 2 barrel, Holley 2 barrel or a Thermoquad 4 barrel or it is possible to have a Quadrajet 4 barrel it is right at the year where they were making manufacturing changes.. EFI came in 1989 on most of the D150s.. Either way don't plan on it getting good gas mileage my 87 Ramcharger only got 12MPG but it was also 4X4 and had a 360 4 barrel.. A lot depends on gear ratio...Do you have any pictures????...Bill
ok great to know, because im looking forward to souping it up, and making a semi muscle truck , and just needed to know if it was a standard 318

Lots of stuff here if you search. When you get it do the normal checks like compression test and so on before spending any money. Ask anything about what direction you want to go in before any purchase and you will get no B.S. answers.
a good daily driver cam has .430 valve lift and 264 degree. its not a big tire burner. but it is very street able with no loss in MPG. will kick a 413 from 340 hp to 360 hp. should be good for a 318. i think chrysler makes one close to that for a 318.
