An AMC 360 will not bolt up to any mopar tranny. They do not have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. You will need to find another 318 or 360 that is a mopar.

They only way to get an AMC motor to bolt up to a mopar tranny is with an adaptor plus a lot more work than it is worth.

The only difference in the AMC 727 and Mopar 727 is the bellhousing bolt pattern. The internals are the same. You have to be careful though as some of the wagoneers came with an NP229 t-case (all wheel drive). You can swap it out for a NP208, BUT it wouldn't be worth it in this application. The motor mounts might not line up properly and if they did you would still need to build some motor mounts, tranny mount and crossmember, new driveshafts, do dome wiring, custom built headers..... more than its worth, and I'd personally would rather have a Mopar 360 over an AMC360. The Mopars are easier and cheaper to build.

To me, I would just sell it, try to get your money back, or do something with the AMC 360 and find yourself a Mopar 360 instead. You should be able to find one on craigslist for pretty cheap.

The bellhousing is different, very different. I thought the that they were the same til I saw the two trannies next to one another. It is not worth the work, trust me. You'll want to find a mopar motor rather than machine and adapt the AMC motor to the Mopar tranny.

X2 on the "sell sell sell and buy a mopar 360". I'd find an AMC forum and ask around and see if anyone would be interested in buying it from you. The AMC 360s in teh cars are the same that came in the FSJs.

Up here in new england, AMC 360s are worth about $100 running. Mopar 360s are about the same since there are so many. I'd start looking on local 4x4 forums and craigslist.
