How Do I Swap Brake Booster Pedal Pushrod?
I will spare you the run-up to this post; suffice it to say that it has been a nightmare getting this far with the replacement of my '78 D-150's booster due to lack of availability.
I need to know how to swap the pedal pushrod from my old booster (rusted-out, blown-out) into the similar-enough-to-work Cardone-rebuilt booster. The old pushrod is 1.5" -2" longer than the one in the replacement booster I have installed. Is it even possible? I have read that they just "pop out" with enough force applied, but trying to remove the pushrod from the old booster with force has proved futile.
Can anyone shed some light here, please?

Jeff,
With your old unit on the bench... Move the rod boot.... Spray some lube down in the hole, let it soak in... Then you should be able to yank it out...May take some force because the old retainer clip my be corroded in there... But it should pop out....
Note: you may have to turn it up on end, and let it soak over night if its rusted in....
Hope that helps.... Cheers.... Keep us posted....

Thanks, Bob. I suspected the process might be something like that. I just hated to "force" anything before I got a second opinion.
My guess is that, after letting it soak, I should clamp the pushrod in a vise, booster side up, and put a crowbar (or two) beneath the "big pod" and pry upward. I just hope that it will come out of the rebuilt one easier than that, I really don't want to damage it.

Jeff, Sorry im late Getting back to your reply... Poor Wife Unit has been fighting medical issues that needed tending too.... But that should get the rod out... I am pretty sure those are not the screw in style...

Thanks, Bob. I DID get it out, but not without some broken plastic parts which are (hopefully) irrelevant. It took both my wife and I pulling on two crowbars to get it to pop out, however.
Prayers for your wife and for the best outcome.

Bob,
Thanks. Yes, I can see the clip in there (since I forced the too-short pushrod out, (accompanied by some broken plastic). I am now waiting for a new boot (since I ruined the original) and I will try putting her together again when it arrives.
Any improvement for your wife?
Jeff
