A little break is good....

 

Yes it is. Just as long as it don't go on too long. As long as you move forward on a project it will come near to completion, because a project is never finished!

 

Keep up the good work. Seeing glimpses of home is making me homesick. I will be back to NC one day.

Grew up in SC but lived in Lexington or around Lexington most of my adult life.

 

Time to weld in the sub frames and torque boxes.





It gets a little smokey in here!










I was happy with the welds, having never really welded up side down on the ground. The slag tended to burn me up though!

And I got a new valance.

 

Haven't been doing much more than piddling this week.

New Kickass toy!


Tried it out on some small dents.






Its better than it was.

Painted the sub-frames with some por 15


And this fender!

Got some supplies in!


I sprayed the outside of the inner fenders and the inside of the other outer fender with some por 15.







The spots I missed I touched up with a brush.

Started installing the head light splash guard on the other fender.


I started looking at the fenders and the car and noticed I seem to be missing some brackets, so off to the shed to find them.

And I did.


Oh these need a little work!


Blasted and painted. Looking good again.


I also found these guards while I was over there. I little bit of soapy water helped clean them right up.


I painted all of the seams with some por 15, then decided to paint the whole firewall.


My mom walked in and caught me cussing the front right fender. She says I am starting to sound like my dad. Problem was that the stud that should be there to attach to the bracket I found and attached earlier was gone. and trying to screw a bolt in it while it was on the car wasn't going so good. So I pulled it off and made my own stud.





This seemed like a good place to stop today.

 

Joe would you happen to have a picture of your K frame. Mine is all rotted out

Thanks mine is different 73-74 were changed to a iso bushing and spool mounts

 

I think I am going to rebuild a tractor next!

I had to open up the hole for the stud to go through.


This right side fender was a monster to get mounted so that the door clears.


The left side went on with out any problems.


Got the old splash guards back in place.



The driver side light brace lined up good.


The passenger side not so much.


The other side didn't even have that troublesome piece of metal.


A lot of stuff to blast and paint.








I placed a bid on another hood hinge. The gears on this one are all eat up.

 

Just found out I won the bid on that hinge.

Started sanding down the car.


And putting on body filler. I love this stuff!




Time to break out the old inline sander.


And sand down the filler. I hate This stuff!







And put some more back on, I love this stuff.




And sand some more off and try and shape the line around the wheel well. I HATE THIS STUFF AGAIN!

And then I needed the shop to work on my brothers mustang, so across the driveway with this.

 

How well I remember that, looking good. Won't be long now!!!

And painted the fire wall to prep for seam sealing!


I got some more pictures of some stuff I did today, but they are on the camera and I think its outside. I'm too lazy to go and get it right now!

 

Ok found my camera.

The hood hing I ordered on eBay arrived.


I cleaned it up and mounted it.




I started knocking the rust and crud off of these windshield pillar trim pieces.


Then I prepped them with some por 15


Then I worked some more on that right rear quarter.

 

Update!


A little time with a scotch bright pad shined these right up.






After looking at the other side, there should be more of a hump running along here.




I was talking with another mopar guy around here who said this would be a problem for a street engine.



He said it could be used in a race car with body plate, or some damn thing. So im packing it up and putting it out of the way for now.







I got my hood hing springs back on.





And I brought the hood over from the shed.


As I was cleaning it out I found a mouse inside of it. It took a good while to get him out!



Damn this thing looks good with a hood!






Ive been helping a friend work on his old mustang. He has a lot of parts that need to be blasted in the blast cabinet. I tried running two compressors at once. It did very well! Always had good pressure! Had to test it on some of my stuff!



And that's it for this week. Back to work for me!

 

I took my Scout to a cruse in in Hillsborough last Friday and was talking to a guy who was driving a 1970 charger. He was telling me about all the work he had done to his and I told him about my 71. Told him I was going through the slow painful process of body filler. He told me of a friend he had that runs a body shop. He said some of the people he hired asked for hacksaw blades to do the body work with. Said that they cut a slot for the blade in a piece of wood and use it to shape the filler. Said that he saw them do it and it worked good for them.

So I gets to thinking.

And knock up this.




I tried it on the section I have been working on ever since I started with the filler. This thing is awesome!!!!









It doesn't matter if its fully cured or not!

I made enough progress on that one area I started working on other areas on that quarter.









Hope to do some more soon.

 

I hate rear quarter! But every day I get a little closer and closer to getting it done.

 

Hey everyone!

I have been out of the game for a while. But I managed to get little work done and a few pictures to go along.



This photo is a little old, but the quarter panel is coming along nice.


I found a set of bumper brackets, and a whole lot of other parts in one spot.

ANOTHER CAR!!!!!!!!!




Shame is, this one is in better shape than mine was............

and then there were two!

 

Well done Joe! What the heck are you gonna do now.

The financially smart thing would be to sell the second car after im done with it. The cool thing would be to fix it up too. Have one four speed car and an automatic.

 

That would be a tough call for me, part of me knows there is a guy out there who would love the car and bring it back to it's glory, that would make me feel great.

The other part of me would want one as a driver/cruiser with power and air and comfort. Then make the same car wicked fast, no comfort, snotty idle with tubs and the biggest tires I could get in there.

 

I know its been over a month since I have posted any pictures. But honestly they all look the same at this point. I have been picking away at the body filler and have slowly been making progress. Here are a few from this week.










I got the rear right quarter filled in and shaped up as good as I can for now. I put a little primer on it to protect the bare metal. As a bonus it looks better as one solid color.
