Need 1952 Imperial Power Steering Pump Help!!!
Hi All,
I am hoping someone can help me out!!!
I have installed a PS pump/ generator unit from a 1952 Chrysler Imperial in a 1949 Packard and this pump is pressurizing a Monroe power assist actuator (an external actuator that assists in moving the steering linkage).
The problem is that the Chrysler power steering pump only puts out 650 max PSI however the Monroe actuator needs 900 PSI to work correctly. The system works OK (just OK) however the system makes a humming sound when the car is in slow turns like when parking.
Does anyone know how to increase the pressure of the pump?
If someone could kindly zap me copies of the shop manual pages for just the PS pump from and then hopefully I can figure out how to increase the pressure output of the Chrysler PS pump by shimming up the pressure relief valve springs. I dont really want to have to buy an entire manual just so I can get the power steering system pages.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
THANKS,
Bill

i think that pump is made like the oil pump in the engine. it should be able to handle 900-1000 psi, or may be a little more. but then the hoses be come the week spot. the newer chrysler pumps are vane pumps. and 1000 psi is about the limit.
