46RH transmission

I have the 46RH tranny in my 95 1500 4x4 with 238,000 miles on it. The trans is starting to slip at the end of second gear and shift late into third. It doesnt do it all the time. doesnt seem to matter if hot or cold. do these still have bands to adjust? The Haynes and Chiltons manuals gloss over it and dont go into details. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have the same problem with mine. I am told that there is an "O" ring on a piston or clutch that is leaking. It seem that they used the wrong type of rubber material on some of them. Two different shops have told me that. If I don't have too much trouble rebuilding my 727, I might tackle the 46RH next.

A tranny manual is great help. As long as you have a good understanding about what the manual is saying and a good sense of adventure, I'd say tackle the project yourself as it would save you quiet a bit of money in labor.

I have heard the same thing about the o-ring but the bands may need to be adjusted and the tranny may need a flush, not just a fluid change.

Dodge Ram 1990 46RH 318

I have a 1990 Dodge Ram w150 with a 46RH, I've been experiencing a vibration coming from what seems like it could be transmission related. I've never had it slip once and i don't abuse my truck I got this truck Second hand from family Friends who bought it not running and I noticed the transmission was dry so I topped it up had no issues. Truck has 33 inch tires on it has a 4" suspension lift has rear air bags, now I've been noticing a Clunk in my truck so I had it jacked up in the air at my school and did a look over of the whole truck. I can't get my truck into 4H or 4L and my transfercase is topped up as well and I'm exsperiencing this vibrating between 70-90 Kms warm cold.. 2-4 gear and when OD is engaged it's worse. I've been babying it, vibration had gone away, so I took it on a 6-8 hour drive up and down some serious hills I had to gear down into 2 for to climb other wise I end up flat on my face foot to the floor boards. She's got a strong 318 with Minor leaks. Now I'm wondering if it's from the torque converter or if the tranny it's self is getting ready to **** the bed. I'd l love to know cause I wanna prepare my self for either 450$ new motor or 1700$ for a brand new tranny. Have any more questions about it I'd love to get this problem delt with or at least somewhat know what the issue is.. thanks

You did really good if you got 238K out of your trans.. With a 4" lift ? I would suggest checking the drive shaft angles? that could be causing your vibes and will cause SHORT U-joint life

Sounds to me like both engine and trans could use a freshen up, along with servicing the differential... Just my 2 cents..

As for vibration... Check also for Yoke Binding....

Thanks but the odd thing is I had a shop do the lift and they exstended my driveshaft and reangled the whole rear end, then they also did some work to my gearing them I'm afraid to **** up cause it was greatly exspensive and they've done 200 satisfied customers so it isn't the lift they checked it.. and I had another shop go over it.. it's not that.

If you start changing stock at 200k you're going to bring out problems!
