i was at the FIRST NHRA nationals in greatbend KS. 1955. should have some pics some where in my archives.

 

So Moe... If you go next year... That will be your 60th year of going????

 

no have not gone in the last few years. my last trip was in 1987 in Texas. i think in October. my dad died in Dec. the 1955 NHRA was just one year. the local guys didnt like how NHRA ran things. so for 1956 AHRA was the sanctioning body. and i think no more major events till Topeka. the stupid leaders in Wichita didnt think they wanted drag races. Wichita is the biggest city in Kansas. our leaders think 5 count em 5 golf courses is what we need for the city to support. but a world class drag strip???? na we dont need that. my mom is 85 after she dies iam moving!!!!!! OUT of wichita.

 

I haven't been to the races since Scott and Darrel were beating up on the GM guys.. I could actually walk to the races from where I live about 2 miles

 

Good Story Moe.... Wichita has a lot of Air Force folks... My nephew was stationed there a few years back.... He is now out and Back here in SO-CAL...

Lynn.... My Wife and I use to own a house rite at White & Texas.. (Between Gary & Holt)... If you have lived near that track for that long.... Broth'a you have seen a lot of Changes.!!!!!...Hahahahaha
I have to say, I use to really like that old town..

 

All of those houses north of the track weren't even thought of yet.. Just empty fields.
No big NHRA tower. Wooden grandstands

i have meet only a few Air Force people but are the best people one would ever meet. years ago my mom meet a girl from England. her husband worked for Rolls Royce as rep on jet engines. i got to show him some engine holding hardware at Boeing that me and some other guys made, for the Rolls jet engine. on the 777 Boeing airliner. very good people. mom still wrights her.
