big block question

big block question

Ok i have a big block engine, i was wondering if there is a way to tell what car it came out of? it's a 440 i have block casting #'s and the block serial # but don't know what some of the stuff means. any assistance in helping me would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a numbers guy but i believe the numbers along the pan rail is a parshal VIN.
I think the first two are body and the last is the year. Now that I've said this someone will tell me how incorrect I am...🙂

Unless you're restoring and trying to match # or selling parts it doesn't matter what numbers are on the block.
