hey everyone. 64 dodge dart gt here

just introducing myself. ive owned this car since i was 11 years old and have dumped all my teenage years into it.. which isnt saying a damn thing. the 225 slant 6 got rebuilt with a new trans. but not enough power for me. im currently deployed but plan on spending most the money i make over here on that car. want to put a 340 in it with a 5 speed. not lookin for the fastest car on the strip, but want her to sound good and keep up. any suggestions on the rear end i should use, or trans, please let me know. here for opinions. thanks

and thanks for your service
I would go with 8 3/4 rear end with a 3:23 gear, depending what it comes out of it might need to be cut down.
not sure about trans
thanks

Welcome and thank you for your services.

340s are great motors but can be kind of expensive to buy. You might want to look around for a well built 360 with a 4 spd and the 8.75 rear axle. Picking the right rear axle also depends on how much power you want the motor to create.

As for the transmission, you'll probably need a 4 spd A883 unless of course you deside to drop in a Magnum 360 with a 5 spd from a 94 later truck.

If you are going to put a 5 speed in it ? get a 3.55 gear. What you might do is look for a 72-76 V8 A body in rough shape for parts. 8 3/4 or 8 1/4 rear with larger 4 1/2 bolt pattern. Baring not having a 340 Get a good 318 with a stroker kit FORGED crank
