My first project!

Hey guys. Excited to be here. New member! Just wanted to share my project. Never been so motivated and excited to start something that I know is going to be beautiful, and hopefully powerful when complete.

What I have: 1968 Dodge dart 270 4 Door (I know...4 door)
1982 318 that I am currently rebuilding (First engine, trying to do everything myself!)

The 318: Well, at the moment, I am going to leave the bottom end stock. This is a street car that I would like to drive around, and have some fun with. I removed the stock heads & intake. I found an Edelbrock 318 street master manifold that I had blasted down to the aluminum, and it looks beautiful. I am currently having the local speed shop with a good reputation doing the heads for me. (Seals, ports etc..) I found an Edelbrock 650 CFM 4brl that I am going to top it off with. Went out to Summit this weekend and purchased some new gear. Summit high performance fuel pump, Mopar aluminum water pump, FelPro 318 gasket set, Mopar Steel timing chain set, and some other nuts and bolts parts. I am still researching the forums on ignition ideas, and still need to get quite a few things together for this engine.

The Transmission: a904 transmission. Picked up a Hughes Torque converter at summit with a 2,000 stall and a B&M trans-pack.

The car: I was not looking for a 4 door car, but when I seen it, I fell in love with it. Interior needs completely redone, the 270 needs ripped out, and the car needs some body work and painted. I decided to do a flat black in the engine compartment, and keep the car its original color, but want to go with a all black interior with a few gauges and a Hurst quarter stick shifter. I want to lower the car, and I found some beautiful wheels that I am going to purchase towards the end of the summer to top it off. (More of a pro-touring look, apologies in advance to all of the stock look MOPAR guys including my father.)

I'll add more as we go along, below are some pics of the beast. Any tips, tricks, that you guys have, I would appreciate. I look forward to this evenings hours and hours of researching this forum, and learning. Thanks!!!!

( You will see in one of the drawings below a quick 30 second picture I did in MS Paint to see what the wheels would look like on the car.) Hope you guys enjoy.

That car is bad ***!!!!

I think a 4 door pro-touring ride would be really cool. And keeping the 318 will help alot to keep the weight off the nose and let the car transfer nicely.

Ive done a couple pro tourer ( no Darts, sorry (: ) and they are super fun. They ride like a brand new OE car but have the style that we peaked at many years ago IMO.

Tips? Hm.... I screwed up a lot over the years and i now approach build in theory a lot more before I execute...keeps price down too.

This stuff has helped me.

1. Draw out exactly what it should be finished. List its items like Mopar Muscle was interviewing you. Cam, exhaust, heads, intake, gears, stall,
2. Have some folks brain storm with you make sure you are headed in the right direction. READ everything you can get your hands on.
3. Replace stuff once.
3a Meaning:
if it needs a total brake job, upgrade to double piston caliper (minimum) with the thickest and tallest over the counter rotor you can make work. I have found rear drums work unless weak in design believe it or not..

Wheels are selected to meet big tire needs, offset, caliper fit, light weight (unsprung weight must be low as possible).

You need fluid coolers for oil, tran, PS.. I also recommend remote filters
Sub frame connectors
Low cost (home made) panhard bar
drain plug on the rear diff
if you keep steering box you can add a circle track inline union to the rag joint to up the lock ratio.

The stuff is endless..........

Keep us updated..

Update: The heads are complete! All new internals, and ready for paint. The 318 block is all cleaned and ready for paint. Most of the car is still disassembled, and we are just beginning to patch in some body work, clean the engine compartment, and slap this 318 in! I'll post more images as we go on!
