My grandmother's car

Yup, that's correct and he should replace the entire system.
Just cheap insurance.

The difference between the boxes is the rpm range, except for the gold which is technically "race only".
On your car, you could use pretty much any (black/blue, orange or chrome), or like I said earlier, just get the kit.

Archer,
What "kit" are you referring to?
The distributor I got is a Mallory laser distributor. I believe that is the correct name. I'll check when I get home from work.

We used to take the points distributors and install the reluctor (?) and the pickup from the newer stock Mopar electronic ignition distributors. It was basically a bolt in. Then we just added the ign box and connected two wires to the distributor and two to the coil.
Ran better at idle even than the points setups.

There are several:

The Mallory is probably fine, as long as it's electronic (without points), I just like to keep things simple.

Archer,
The distributor I have doesnt require a separate module. It has one built in to it. I'm sure glad that I talked to my dad about it before I went and spent unnecessary money. Lol.
All I got to do is wire it to the coil, the resistor and ground. Boom it's done.

The pertronix have been problematic for awhile now, a friend of mine who sells this stuff said out of ten pertronix distributor's and conversion kits he had to sen 7 back. He has customers that insist otherwise he would not sell them at all.
The one I have worked when it was on my dads 69 satellite. I'm going to give it a shot and if it doesn't work then I'll resort to other options.
Thank you for the heads up. At least now if it doesn't work I'll know it was not something I did.

Archer,
So I'm about to start the build of the motor. I'm not too sure of what size cam to get. I would like to stay stock with as much as I can but I'm well aware that I might have to change a few things inside the motor to accommodate for a bigger cam. I would really appreciate your input as you have been a big help on this project. I have a budget as well so I can't go crazy with things. If you could send me some info that would be greatly appreciated.

Right now Comp Cams seems to be the go-to source.
This will be a little warmer than stock, but still reasonable.

Next step up:

Watch the video, you will need to address the intake and exhaust.
Depending on how hot you go, things like the torque converter stall and diff ratio can become factors too.

Archer,
Thank you. I have already made plans on getting a new intake and putting headers on the car. I'm probably just going to be getting the one just a little more than stock for now. I'm not trying to make a track car with it just a little bit more horsepower.

Thank you. Now to save another 500 dollars so as I can get the cam kit.
I have a question about that. Would it be a wise idea to get new push rods as well. The ones in the motor now only have 30000 miles on them but I wouldn't want to put everything together just to take it back apart to replace the push rods.
