Hello Mopar people! My buddy is looking to sell me his 1962 Polara 500 and I have a couple questions. car is in real nice shape body frame interior engine bay all look super clean. its got drum brakes all around that suck but work. and the trim around the rear window needs to be installed. the clips were shot and glass guy just got some so that is good. the only concern is on the lower side of the passenger side of the block coolant is weeping. I would not have noticed it if he did not point it out. He purchased it like this and said he was told it was not cracked. Car is real nice what do you guys have to say aboout a weep or worm hone in the casting of the block. Thanks for the advise. Billy Forgot to mention it has 413 motor with push button 3 speed automatic transmission. The car runs strong.

Sounds like it is a freeze Plug leaking from the side of the block? Not to hard to fix..

 

I agree with Bob but with a leaking water symptom there is a possibility that the motor has been overheated.

Nope not a freeze plug just a tiny hole in the side of the block. Ive been told some of these blocks were cast like that. I am not a Mopar guy just like this car real clean and has potential to go faster. Will need some brake work for sure and some sorting out with the push button part of the tranny. local guy up here says he has a special tool to adjust the push button mechanism.

 

Hope the block can be repaired? Maybe welded or if the crack is small enough i think way back in the day some shops would just install a cold rivet. But maybe you could fix it by welding at this point depending on where the crack is at??
As for the Push button... Sometimes all those need a just a good cleaning and or an adjustment.
Sounds like a fun project.

Thanks for the response definitely not a crack in the block. Waiting to hear back from a local shop about the push button tranny adjustment. Was just trying to educate myself a little.
