440 transplant found on craigs list

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1255311334.html

My buddy has a 44o crate angine from 1977 with less than 5k miles. I'm sure he is going to give me a sweet deal on the motor.

This ad has the motor with the tranny I need for what appears to be a good price.

Is the date coded 1968 engine and tranny better for my 1968 Satellite, or should I just go with my friends engine?

I'm not trying to build a show car, just a mean street machine.

There were some years that had better castings due to molds, machining and iron quality. I read it somewhere, but I'm sure someone knows for sure. Me, I'd go for the 77 due to the known history of it, and your buddy might stand behind it.

You have to think about this. The car has an entire drivetrain that you can use (440/727/8 3/4) plus you'll have a shell that you can sell or part out then to make some of that money back.

That is a weaker 440, but with bettr flowing heads and the proper upgrades, that thing would scream.

On the other hand, you'd be getting a 5K mile 440 that needs nothing but comes with nothing as well. it might be cheaper, but how much is it going to cost you to get a tranny, rear axle, accs., etc. to go along with that motor? Seem to me like you should go with the car if you can or make the guy a deal on the entire drivetrain. (i'd get the whole car though).

I would be interested in some of the pieces off the New Yorker. Small stuff and the lower chrome on the rear drivers door.
